Lorenda looks more pregnant than fat -- her stomach is pretty much the only thing large about her. Larger people don't just have fat on the front of their stomach, but on their back too, as well as on their face. Her back is way too smooth, not a single fat roll on it. Not that I'm complaining, I'm not one of those people that love her fatness.
Fat people come in all shapes and sizes. TRUST me, it's not uncommon for a fat lady to look pregnant. Firsthand experience on that one.

My main problem with how the characters talk is it feels out of place at times. They'll be talking informally and using contractions one second, and then switch to this super-proper, everything-is-expanded way of talking that no one does, and it's irritating. I could understand if one person spoke in an intensely formal way at all times, that makes sense. But when all of them do that annoying formal/informal switching? It just makes the dialogue seem clunky.
Idunno, Dialogue seems fine to me. I think that the speech variety comes from a fantasy setting with knights, swords, and magic seemingly rapidly changing to a modern setting wtih malls, cafes, and video games. but that's just my Epileptic Tree.
Not to mention some species being so long lived that they must have gone through multiple periods of slang and dialect. And if you think about it, it's really mostly them that use older colloquialisms.
