OK, posting the entirety of what I'm calling "A Life Less Original". 67 total edits, lots of rewriting. Not every page is here, and please don't point out spelling and grammar errors--it's a rush job.

Side note: I gave Red an unidentifiable Irish/Scottish accent to tie to the name and make her more interesting. Vic's dad is a Brooklyner.

Testing the Xchan Directory Dumper; cross your fingers.

Enjoy!

Joe don't sweat the small stuff. I realized what the card/cars typo was and let it slide. Still though, your version is still better than Naylor's is.

Time to get back into the swing of these. This is not my favourite, but the page doesn't give me much to work with.

This one on the other hand I like. It's a much nerdier joke, I think, and Abigail sounds a little more natural.

yeah i have no idea what that's from, i caught the word lego, that's it and that might be totally unrelated to the quote.

And now that it's out, here's #114 (7/2). I did some minor art edits--one of the problems with Thomas' run is that his legs aren't bending. People don't RUN like that. Also changed the phone gag to something that's not puerile.

The edits aren't perfect, as I'm not an artist by trade. Still I like it.
>> No. 17335 ID: d67d8f
it's a hell of a lot better than the original, i don't hate thomas (as much) with this one. and the dialog matches the panel a lot better as well.
>> No. 17361 ID: 48a908
No ALLO edit for #115; there's nothing to be done with it.

I'm also running into a charming wall that I completely expected and still hate: I really wanted this to be a fun, pleasant week (or whatever) with Trixie. Instead, it's a cliche Calvin & Hobbes arc, and I'm forced to play along.

Grates my nerves, but I knew the job was dangerous when I took it (cluck cluck cluck cluck).

#116. I didn't want to do it, but you know this is how it's going to go down--Trixie's gonna lose.
>> No. 17453 ID: bcfc00
personally i'd hold off on the edits until we know how this whole thing unfolds, it makes it a little hard trying to make up the dialog and plot without knowing what naylor is going to do for the next page.

Naylor has plots?
>> No. 17854 ID: 2ff30e
Honestly, I never saw any real racism or antisemitism back in Better Days. I figured it was all just plot. Maybe I just don't know Mr. Naylor very well, heh. It was fun to read and I felt like I grew up with Fisk and Lucy in a way.

...But seeing these rewrites, yeah, I can kind of see where these claims of crappy writing can come from. I mean I can REALLY see them.

Anytime you go out of your way to make your black characters (I.E. the hyenas) come of as sounding less intelligent than your other racial caricatures, then you're at best being racially insensitive. Each animal type he picked to represent different human races themselves carry anthropomorphized secondary characteristics/stereotypes and to select the hyena out of all the possible animals from "Africa" to represent blacks was either intentionally done (because Jay has self-proclaimed every action he does is well thought out and not by chance), or, he just can't draw any other animal types from Africa to use for black people in his comic world. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume its the latter.
>> No. 17871 ID: bcfc00
>>17854 I was the same way, my first read through the worst reaction i ever had was 'what?'. Namely this was at the end of the father's footsteps chapter, and it wasn't even about how fisk was now a terrorist, i wasn't really paying attention to that part, it was more of why bother setting fisk and beth up to become a couple only to cancel it in the next chapter. Now I don't know how i ever let some of the other stuff slide, i guess it was my usually generous nature to just let stuff go.

Jay does not like black people; if you have any doubts about that, sift through his LiveJournal and see if you can find any posts where he's related his opinions about them in the past, assuming he hasn't deleted them by now. He wrote some particularly disgusting things around the time that Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans that made me stop following him entirely.

And now Trish's Member. (I am not suing the official title.) I bent this one around a little; there's also some art edits, but again, I'm not an artist so some of them are a bit clunky. Most of them are "ambient" changes, like removing the big "AAAAH" behind Goat when he blows in Trish's mouth.

Again: please don't point out art failings or typos.

And it went slightly out of order. Sorry about that.

One thing: I wanted to change Trish's face on Page #5, when she's commenting on Erzile's dick; I couldn't pull it off, so I didn't bother.
>> No. 18133 ID: 1152da
It's still kind of freaky Joe, but your re-write makes it better.
>> No. 18138 ID: bcfc00
well like i said, there's only so much you can do when the very story is a lost cause, but it's at least stupid, if you could have shooped her face a few times the dialog and art would match up perfectly, maybe we can get some of the resident shoopers to help next time. I do love how trish's lines on the last page, it's like exacally what most of us thought when we saw this.

You mean besides the whole "Sparkling Vampires" bullshit? I have a female friend, the same one that made my avatar on my DA page, that recieved the whole series as a gift. She tried to read the first book, and just barely got through the introduction, when she read the BS about the "vampires" sparkling in the sunlight she called Bullshit and stopped reading. (For her credit she didn't throw the books away, she donated them to the library in town.)
