This here's your games board. Think /tg/ meets /v/ - discussion on tabletop games, board games, and videogames (no matter the system) goes here.

The usual rules apply, and for the love of God, please try to keep the fanboyism to the bare minimum.

Alright, since I'm bored and I figured I'd help make this board a little more classic /tg/-like..

This is a 40k Fluff thread.

Discuss the fluff/background of 40k here and feel free to ask questions because I know far more about this stuff than I have any reason to.

indeed

this is what makes 40K so grimdark

you can never win - but you must fight. you must throw your life into the breach, just to maintain the status quo

it doesn't matter if that means you get torn to shreds, or slowly mutated due to exposure to corrupting energies. you must fight. when you can fight no more your body will be processed into corpse starch to feed more troops

this is the 41st millenium, and there is only war

I know Chaos got most of Cadia at the end of the campaign(that's how Eldrad Ulthuan died), but they were unable to consolidate on their early victories. From what I remember, Chaos managed to keep the worlds they had taken, but somebody said that the Imperial Navy booted him off Cadia and back into the Eye. The Iron Hands as well as the Eldar were victorious if I remember. I thought it would suck if GW just deus ex machina'd the whole campaign back into the status quo.

>Generals would have been awesome on its own yet they instead decided herp derp lets make it Everyone Vs Arabs, make references to the Afgahnistan war
So I take it you were thick enough that you didn't catch the "China rises to dominate the world through pretty talking" part?
>> No. 816 ID: eae20c

I thought the whole 'China takes over teh world' thing occurred mostly in Zero Hour.

I'm talking about the start of it, which mimiced the War on terror.

>>816
Yes, they did. And that was a substancial upgrade to Generals that at least attempted to mimic the first C&C games with the use of reporters telling where the story is in the mission intros.

Generals ended with the USA army arsefucking the GLA. In Zero hour you played the reverse order of the armies than in the first one - USA first, GLA second, China third.

only thing bad about SupCom1 is that when you get big enough with units and whatnot, and your opponent does too, then the pathfinding bogs down your machine to a crawl. the game becomes virtually unplayable.

as for DRMs - ya, its retarded. the more they tighten the grip, the more they scare away costumers and turn people to piracy

This is about discussion of the characters and their names, not the games. That being said, Master Chief isn't his name as "John" is intentionally bland but still bland.

To add to the discussion, Gordon Freeman. You can debate "Gordon" but anyone named Freeman that's going up against a tyrannical, planet-conquering interdimensional regime has a badass lame.

I don't care if that was his original name...Robotnik is so much more menacing.

And they are still calling the enemies badniks...what gives? using one american name but not the one it's derived from?
>> No. 801 ID: 8f10ec

Because in Canon, Eggman attempts to address himself as Dr Robotnik in Sonic Adventure only to have that shot down by Sonic who starts calling him Eggman or Egg. after this he decides to go by Eggman even though his official family name is Robotnik (Professor Gerald Robotnik's grandson). I don't ever recall his robots being call anything else but Badniks anyway, even outiside of Japanese localisation.

Right, so I'm still stuck on a few things for my Spess Mahreens and would like some help if at all possible from you guize.

Anywho, I need some help on a name and a colorscheme in particular for my chapter.

For names, I'm thinking of doing "[insert something here] Wolves" (currently thinking of Storm Wolves) or some other kind of canine or whatnot. The reason for this is that I'm using Space Wolf bits for my marines (in particular the Grey Wolf shoulder pad that I'm planning on using for chapter insignia). For a bit more info, I'm thinking of going either Dorn/Imperial Fists or Ferrus Manus/Iron Hands as their Primarch/Progenitor chapter (obviously this won't be a second founding chapter).

Pic related as to what I'm currently thinking about going with in terms of color scheme, but I'm not sure. If you've got a better idea, feel free to tell me, or go to http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?autocom=pages&do=show&id=1 Click the Space Marine painter and have at it. I've only partially painted two marines and I've got a liter of Simple Green, so it's not as though stripping and repainting is a big deal for me.

If you have any questions for me regarding what I've got so far for their fluff/background, I'll happily start typing it out.

If anyone else wants to ask for help or opinions for armies in this thread, go right ahead.

Also.. In the last edition (I started at least being seriously interested in '06-'07), back when SM Librarians had familiars, I thought about getting a Librarian with a bear with lots of augmetic bits sticking out of it as a familiar.

I suppose I could still do the same thing if I made my army play as Space Wolves though.
>> No. 780 ID: c2d37c

I'm not sure how artistically inclined you are, but you could get some sculpy or something, fill in the engraved portion of a wolf and do your own of a bear. I suppose that'd be pretty tedious for troops though.

ahh, shit, I've been using these for my own chapter.

On a related note, the combination of the name "devil foxes" and an orange with black legs scheme I later discovered to have been done before.

Would not be surprised if they were furries, too.

Sums up rather well how I feel about MM10

It just feels rather bland, from the stages to the bosses to the weapons.

Also surprised no one has mentioned that this game finally puts to rest the whole "Is mega Man X really Mega Man 10" debate that happened when MMX came out.

Just finished playing Heavy Rain, and thought that it was a good story and gameplay. The characters are likable (mostly), and the settings are fine and dandy. Jayden is my favourite of the group personally, though for the longest time I thought that Shelby was a great one too.

Only had a couple of complaints as it was. The walking movement was a pain in the ass. Too many times do you walk past something and have to robotically turn yourself and try to land close enough to hit a button this time, and don't even get me started on turning in the crawling section. The only other real issue is that replayability takes a hit after the first play. It is expected though, you take a story driven game, weave a great plot, and once you've seen the big reveal, you have that fulfillment but lose the mystique.

Anyone else had the pleasure of going through the game yet? Looking for comment and thoughts on it.
>> No. 752 ID: c214ef
Other than a few plot holes here and there I really enjoyed it. I look foreward to unlocking the next 7 endings.

Yeah the walking was pretty annoying

oh and before i forget SPOILER ALERT Ethan Mars' bare ass

BOOBIES!

But yes an awesome game. Though getting the hidden gold trophy ending will be fun.

I got all 5 endings for the extra Taxidermist chapter. It was shot but creepy and tense.

Overall the game is a great tense adrenaline rush, the first few times.

As a tip, start on easy then go up on subsequent playthroughs. Button prompts are added and changed to keep you guessing.

Lastly I loved all of the mains. But, yes Jayden's the best. Not your usual FBI badass, but a more normal guy. Plus, how can you not love ARI! and those glasses.
