FUCK YEAR! moments in gaming thread..

Copypasting from an IM because I'm fucking lazy, but I'll clarify some things:

Playing NavyField, the game mode is Great Battle 2, I went north along with a BB, figuring I'd scout for him and let some fish (read: Torpedoes) loose..

While doing that, the BB (read: Battleship) eventually bites it, but I manage to cripple a CA (read: Heavy Cruiser) in the process without him ever knowing where I was, while the rest of the team pretty much gets backed into the southeast corner, slowly getting torn apart..

I'm now along the western edge of the map, creeping south, figuring I might get lucky and catch a small carrier not paying attention or pick off someone who tried to limp back to safety..

Then I sees it.. The Great Plains (name of the ship, it's a Ticonderoga class carrier, one of the largest in the game and one of only two that I've seen on the server I play on), just barely on my radar.. I immediately floor it to 51kt (51 knots, my maximum speed) and ready my final two fish.

The moment I get within range of firing, she goes full speed ahead to try and get out of there while her bombers are on the opposite side of the map.

I give chase, once I get close enough, I put my fish to high speed (torpedoes have two speed settings, fast and slow, slow allows them to run longer, but.. They're slower and easier to evade, fast makes them go faster but have a much shorter range) and fire away.. Naturally, they miss. So I'm stuck with guns.

But what's this?

The CA (Heavy Cruiser) I crippled earlier is back, limping along to get to us and firing at me (poorly if I might add) but still gets about 2k damage in (around a third of my hit points)..

About this time, the entire rest of my team has been sunk, and I'm now in Counter Attack mode (which means I have 5 minutes to sink the enemy flag ship, or lose) So I do the only thing I can.. I get so close to the Tico (the carrier) that I simply cannot miss, and if they try to shoot me, they end up shooting her as well. So the only way for me to win, is if I sink this massive thing with my tiny guns.

Soon, I've got 3 enemy vessels around me, a can (a destroyer) a CL (light cruiser) and the CA (heavy cruiser) that I pissed off earlier.. All of them firing off everything they can the moment I get too far away from the carrier or I don't keep up with its evasive maneuvers. The entire time, I'm plinking away at this beast with my eight 5.9" guns, barely able to do much of anything to it.

Or at least that's what it felt like.

After a while, it slows down (once you take so much damage, you have engine trouble and move at a severely reduced speed), and I'm able to practically park next to it while keeping his buddies out of line of sight and finally take it out. BOOM! 33000 tons of steel goes to the bottom of the ocean after taking 42,000 damage from my tiny guns.

I love my Z.99 Destroyer so much..

I'll add that since the game lasted as long as it did, that I did so much damage, and I (I'd say that my team won, but they were all dead and did nothing in this final little battle) won, I got a rather massive experience bonus for all of my crew.

Have fun.

I know that it sucks until you at least get a destroyer, then you can actually do something.

We are sorry to inform you that Tali's suit was ruptured in the ensuing explosion.

I'm having trouble finding it, but I did much the same thing with Medieval: Total War. A single archer managed to get away from a massive clusterfuck, and I was playing defense, where you win when the time runs out. It was a snow battle so visibility would bleed in and out. Twice the little bugger killed single-man scout units that came across him, allowing him to move to a new spot undetected, and as four horsemen were closing in...vision whited out for a final time, and I had managed to run my butt off to the veeeery edge of the map. 90 seconds later, the battle ended. Skin o' teeth or what?
