The Goddamned Furry Board

Embedding videos by Freehaven - 1/23/10 @ 9:25AM EST#

(This will eventually be added to the FAQ.)

To embed a video on boards that allow it, you simply have to add the video ID into the "Embed" field, choose the applicable site, and make your post. (You cannot post an image and an embed on the same post.) If you don't know how to find the video ID for the sites we support, here's some examples (the ID is identified in bold):

New boards are up and running! by Freehaven - 1/21/10 @ 11:00AM EST#

As you can tell from the new menu layout, our new boards are all up and running!

These are:
By the end of next month, /wtfur/ and /currant/ will be deleted, so save what content you need to from those boards before they're gone forever!

New year, new layout by Sechs_Fuckheaven - 12/15/09 @ 1:12PM EST#

Shortly after the new year, we'll be doing a board revamp, to be discussed through the end of the year, decided on in January, and implemented before February hits.

Now is the time to read up, think out, and weigh in on the thread in /site/. Some boards are up for revamping, others for elimination, others for creation (or re-creation).

One board up for chopping is /use/, an experiment a long time in the running, and one I think has been an amusing success. I set out to make Eagleland as close as an image board could get to the ideal, and partly the actuality, of America itself, with remarkably free rein, few rules, and the fact that leaving it didn't suddenly wipe the slate clean with people who didn't like your free speech. It worked, too... people accused it of being evil, of being fascist, of things happening there that didn't happen, they decried even the few rules as totalitarian, and they openly hated it despite never having to go there or having anything to do with it. It was almost eerie. But it's slowing down now, and the constant parade of the same arguments over and over have become grating, so it may be time to end the experiment. If you disagree, it's up to you to speak up and make your case.

Anyhoo, after all that BS, lemme just restate: Board changes coming. Desire your input. Get posting.

EDIT: The new board lineup has been finalized; check the thread for the new boards coming your way (and the old ones that will be leaving). We'll have the new boards up and running by the end of the month!

The Artist Alley Boards and You by Freehaven - 12/4/09 @ 5:57PM EST#

I know I've made a newspost about these boards before, and I know I've tried to raise awareness of the boards before, but I'm going to try it once again because I'm a stubborn goddamn bastard.

The Artist Alley boards are there for you to use in any way you see fit. If you wanna show off doodles or WIP versions of pics you're working on, go for it! If you have a short story that you're proud of, or just part of one that you can't seem to finish, share it with the rest of us! We're more than happy to host your original creations because we wish to encourage the sharing and creation of art of ANY kind. While this site is primarily focused on the furry community and furry art, the Artist Alley boards are not geared exclusively towards furry content; you can post pretty much any kind of art you can come up with on the Artist Alley boards.

While the Artist Alley boards currently move rather slow, we don't have plans to delete them because of their inactivity; we would like to encourage more posters, including any of you "big name" furry artists who might be lurking our site, to contribute brand new content to the site and to the Internet as a whole. Consider our boards a place to show off "experimental" works or doodles that wouldn't normally get shared. Who knows, you might even end up getting inspired by the works others post on the boards!

And remember: the next time FurAffinity goes down, you'll have an outlet for sharing art while you wait for the site to come back up.

Politics and /use/ by Sechs_fuckheaven - 11/23/09 @ 6:25PM EST#

I'd like to take a moment to clarify something for everyone.

You may think that /use/ is just there because, like other image boards, we have a hardon for classifying things and nagging you about where they go. However, this is not the case. You are perfectly capable of discussing politics or other controversial subjects wherever you like.

The fact is that the /use/ board and its extremely small list of things you can be banned for doing there are for your protection. Go saying things I or the other mods think are stupid in other boards and we'll ban you, grind up your bones, and use them to replenish the sand of our little sandbox here.

In short: Don't go saying stupid political shit on other boards unless you want to help us live up to our banhappy reputation. This serves as your only blatant warning, and from henceforth you will get a look at our adorable ban message for yammering idiocy outside the protected board.

Concerning Richard Helms by Freehaven - 10/16/09 @ 7:11PM EDT#

Richard Helms, aka "Sinister Taz" or "Betawolf", has come forward and threatened to DMCA any website that posts commissions done for him that he has the full rights to.

While we believe him to be a gigantic jackass and really has no intention on using a law that, up until a couple of months ago, he wasn't even familiar with...we can't take that risk. Neither Sechs nor myself are in the position to be on the wrong end of ANY legal action. (This is why SexyFur was on the DNP right from the start.)

Therefore, from this point forward, any commissions done for Helms are on our Do-Not-Post list. Posting one will result in the image being deleted as soon as we're made aware of it, and it may also result in your being banned from the board, depending on the situation and our mood.

New Roll Call of the Dishonored Entry by Freehaven - 9/14/09 @ 8:16PM EDT#

We have added Richard "Sinister Taz" Helms to the Roll Call of the Dishonored. If you are an artist, please take the time to read this entry.

New DNP entry by Freehaven - 8/14/09 @ 3:22AM EDT#

As much as I loathe doing this sort of thing, we have a new DNP entry.

Miranda Leigh, proprietor of Smokingpen.com, asked us politely to make her pay-for content DNP. Since she was quite polite about the request, and since she didn't want to make her freely available art DNP, and she wants to participate on our boards, I've added that listing to our DNP list as a sign of mutual respect.

I want to remind everyone not to take this as a sign that we'll cave on every DNP request, or that we'll honor your request even if you're polite about it. We like the DNP at the size it's at right now, and we hate it when it gets any larger, no matter the reason. We urge you to strongly consider any and every aspect of a DNP request - why you're making it, the consequences of restricting who can view your art, etc. - before you pass it along to us.

New DNP entry by Freehaven - 6/11/09 @ 3:46PM EDT#

As of today, Jim Hardiman's lovingly detailed vagina art shitty scribblings are DNP. Anyone caught posting any of his art shit will face severe consequences.
