Like Sechs, my personal board has its own set of rules.

3. Badmouthing Squirrel Girl is forbidden. (With the exception of Sechs doing it, because if I don't let her, she will hurt me.)
4. Feel free to reply with text posts in the threads, but don't assume that any thread is a request for posting more content unless I specifically ask for more content.

I'd normally post something like this in the copyright thread, but I thought this subject deserved its own thread.

I've been having a private discussion with Wolfblade about copyright, business models, and other such issues, concerning both the furry fandom and other creative industries. I wouldn't have pointed this out, seeing as how he wanted to keep the discussion between us, but he said something to me that (with his permission) I wanted to share with the rest of you:

We, the producers, have a system that works for us. You want to destroy it, you want us to stop fighting it, come up with something else VIABLE for artists in its place. I guaran-fucking-tee you that the INSTANT the freeshare "revolution" comes up with a way to have all this free sharing crap but still let the artists get paid more than just "I think you're cool enough for me to pity you" handouts, it'll be jumped on. Because if it really is about respecting and appreciating the art, then you should be willing to make the effort to help the artist continue to be able to make that art. Otherwise, it really is just you wanting everything without having to pay for it, and nothing more.

Now, I personally don't believe that the consumers should be the ones who come up with an artist's business model. But this does raise what I feel is an interesting line of discussion: business models within the furry fandom. What business models do you think work best and/or worst within the fandom? What kind of business models do you think would work within the fandom? Does piracy REALLY have that big of an effect on an artist's bottom line within the fandom?

As a favor to Wolfblade, I promised him that I would keep the discussion as on-topic and civil as possible - so please, no insults or off-topic posts.

He's real good at doing quick sketches. I'm not sure how great it'd be to do that for a month but I dont see why it wouldnt be worth trying.

How can imageboards improve? What could be done to improve imageboard culture, or to generally make using imageboards better?

Sage, you make it sound like editing only the last post is a bad thing. They do it like that because if you could edit any post, imagine how awful that would be?

People would be correcting things they have said about people etc, trying to get themselves out of idiotic comments. Like when people delete journals about their views on people they have slept with. So yeah, editing last post is good, because sometimes i fuck up with typos etc or not notice something on a reread. But if you can edit anything, people won't even start to think about what they are saying.

Oh, I think it's a good thing that you can only edit the last post you made (and even then, you only have a few minutes to edit it). I was mainly just stating that Tinychan has the feature.

I also like the fact that, unlike most imageboards, they use DIVs in their HTML/PHP layouts rather than tables nested within DIVs.

Apparently, it's based on a system called "atbbs"; I downloaded a copy of it myself, and I might end up giving it a thorough look-through next week.

Hey, my old friend, I just got this image in my email, completely without context by the sender. I immediately recognized the dimpled chin, the M-shaped lips, the piercing blue eyes and that mole on the neck. As well as the wood paneling.

Still sexy after all these years.
