Heh, reminds me of the futility of fighting Kemper on evony. Yes, some people actually do sign up, and no it isn't for the boobies. Although I'd like hers as the _____ prize for losing if you catch my drift.
Basically you're offered a bonus if you pay them $30 at set intervals and during holidays. She has made every payment since the server started, she started on the first day, and pretty much purchased her way to owning 7 cities within the first two days, while everyone else waffled about how many of the 'bonuses' they should pick up, and is about 2 million 'prestige' points (8-8.5) and 15 million soldiers ahead of everyone else. She feeds them by smashing into the ground everyone under a million pres. Has never stopped producing soldiers, has never had a starvation event, has never had a riot. Has only lost a single city due to attacking and defeating a 90-person alliance single-handedly and throwing them out of their home territory. (The two next most powerful used that opportunity to throw everything they had at the city, then burned it to the ground.)
basically goes to show why pay-to-play where the paid items are power bonuses is a bad thing, especially to some psycho twat with a bottomless credit card. I just plain ragequit at that point when in order to exact their vengeance all the top players began mimicking her rise to power, cuz I knew what was coming. And all the while that smug little chink bastard who started it up with funds from farming gold in WoW rubs his hands like Montgomery Burns watching the money fall in.
And this beast has 138 servers currently. Now imagine how much money they've made if even only the top 10 or 20 follow this through each time.
To let you know how ridiculous this evony thing is, they send you packages on halloween, christmas, and new year's. Guess how much you have to pay (yes, PAY) to open your presents. If you guessed $30, you've been paying attention, pat yerself on the back!
The only two packages I bought were special one-time $5 offers due to forum happenings. Skillful and shrewd playing got me to 1.3 million pres in two months with only a $10 investment (and which they wouldn't have gotten if their medal drop rates weren't so horrible) so yes, if you're lucky enough to get the medals you need (as what you get is also randomly determined, dammit), then you CAN be successful and powerful. But, that is not the business model these things are founded upon, and whenever people on your server stumble upon that realization, and the irrational competition bug bites them, you'll be left in the dust as they gobble up bonus package after bonus package. Basically, their idea to have a brand spanking new 'bonus package' to add to the million other bonus packages they have every week just rewards assholes with deep pockets, and goon squad style tactics just won't beat those who can buy their way out of the hole.
Don't mind me, just assuming it works that way since a lot of the lingo sounds that way
