I have to disagree with that. The separation between furry art and drama-inducing conversation is probably one of the best things I've seen done on an image board. I can't even go on lulz.net anymore because every time I see something I like, it's guaranteed to have hostility. It really bugs me when a friend of mine's work gets posted, the conversation turns from appreciation to "I hate this person's art and I hate them as a person", then they over-criticize every single piece as if they were made by Jeremy Bernal. Even worse, a lot of this isn't done because they honestly hate their art, they just want to start shit on popular threads and/or artists (see trolling).
The current system we use, even if it is flawed, it forces users to make a whole new topic if they want to get their hate-on. not only does it keep the drama away from the main board so everybody can enjoy it, but it also gives people the freedom to say what they want.
I'd say comics are kind of a causality in the system, since they're something that invokes discussion.
