Peter Sprigg needs to go fuck himself. With a shotgun. Repeatedly.

The man represents an institution called 'the Family Research Council'. That pretty much summarizes just what kind of position that he'd hold and what qualifications he'd bring to the argument.

Seriously, though, I can't really see how the debate would go otherwise. The military needs more soldiers to keep up with recruitment demands, sexuality doesn't really prevent a person from performing the necessary duties, and there's a low percentage of active soldiers who would 'reconsider' reenlistment for service alongside homosexuals. The only argument against changing the laws limiting participation would be those who only use the reasoning, 'ewwwww, gays'.

As for the comment about social engineering being done in the military, I'm not exactly sure what military to which he's referring. Before they were recognized as legally free, before they were even permitted to vote, there have been black Americans fighting and dying for their country. Whether or not this was social engineering is entirely debatable, since the civil rights movement happened well after Executive Order 9981 to desegregate, issued in 1948.

Bullshit. Bull-fucking-shit. Peter Sprigg is a fucktard who hasn't been within 5 miles of an actual military unit to know what he's talking about. Being gay in the military is kind of an open secret, or at least it was when I left the service 5 years ago. Because of the same "forced intimacy" issues, everyone knows who's gay and who isn't. Nobody does anything about because NOBODY CARES. If your life is on the line, you're not gonna care if the person next to you is gay, you only care if they can do their job.

As for percieving shipmates and fellow soldiers as sexual objects, is he not aware that men and women can serve in the same unit or on the same ship nowadays? What does he intend to do about that, make it so only straight men can serve?

The only thing he got partially right is that homosexual activity is prohibited under the UCMJ. Sodomy, specifically is prohibited under the UCMJ, so while it does apply to homosexual behvior, it applies to heterosexual activity as well. It's also never applied unless it's in conjuction with a rape charge or someone got caught getting a hummer.

If you watch to the end of the clip, he straight-up asks Sprigg if he would make homosexuality illegal if he could and the guy responds, 'yes'.

This guy exemplfies the reason why anti-gay people will never, ever win in the end.

The US Military hasn't had any troubles with recruitment for quite some time actually. But you're right about everything else.

Well, the oldest profession in the world is supposedly still alive and well on all 49.5 acres of floating sovereign American territory and there is still talk about allowing women to serve on subs.

49.5 acres

Actually it's 4.95, but you get points for the right digits. :-p

I served aboard the USS Harry S Truman (CVN-75) for 6.73 years as a nuclear machinist mate, those who figured me out didn't care, those that did care where not in my direct line of work, those that figured me out and did care focused on my work quality. The number of retards I had to deal with because of who I am was insignificant. I can confidently say that when it comes down to the line no one cares what you do on you time away from prying eyes when you're being shot at, leading a mainenance crew to elevate a 5000lb piece of equipment safely, working on electrical equipment that can VAPORIZE you, mending steam piping that can cause instant 3rd degree burns, handling reactor coolant samples for analysis, ensuring that the whole SHIP had water that is safe to drink, or taking fire from the enemy.

I served my country with pride and dignity so that we can all rant about the little things, the hate mongers can bash me and I can fuck whoever I feel like (with their consent, of course!)

I'm not going to wish bad things on a person as Mr. Sprigg, because that would be sinking to his level and 'proving' that we queers are an angry bunch. I'm just going to quietly seethe and ask for him to grow a brain cell or two before he tries to pass his opinion off as fact next time he goes before the lens of the world.

There you have it, my two cents. Now let us all say farewell to such stupidity and ourselves a good night.

11 (Enterprise, Nimitz, Eisenhower, Vinson, Roosevelt, Lincoln, Washington, Stennis, Truman, Reagan, Bush) * 4.5 (I've always heard of it referred to as 4.5 acres) = 49.5

JSYK how I got that number.

Anyway, thanks for your service.

LOLOL

Maybe I should retract my comment about being in the nuclear field for that kind of oversight. :-p

As for the correct value. . .serious rounding error when they used yards for measurement of the flight deck rather than sq. ft.. Having had to memorize the actual square footage for one of my surface warfare qualifications I realized they put the wrong number on those crazy publicity posters.

Not that I want to make this thread any more dramatic than it already is (too late! XD), but I got kicked out for not being a good little 'normie'.

I appreciate the gratitude, now you get some appreciation from a silly North American pine marten. :-p *huuuuuuugggggss*

Marder? Did someone say marder?

But in all seriousness, this guy is terrible, and really typifies and shows that the majority of vocal "anti-gay" activists really are what stereotypes describe them as.

Also, can I just throw out my hate for the people out there that are "offended for gays" by comments such as "gay" and stuff? I got told to stop saying "that's gay" by some straight girl in the middle of class, and I'm bi. >_<

I'm a bi-curious guy who tries to get people to stop saying 'that's gay'. It's not because I'm offended by it so much as it's the level of insult that an eight year old would use.

I like his comment about "viewing them as sexual objects."
Maybe we should ban men from serving, god knows they look at women that way.
Hell I bet some women do the same to men!

Yep. That's when the argument ended for me.

One of the more important points that ol' Spriggs could (and really should) have brought up was the likelyhood of increased animosity toward open homesexuals in the military. Not necessarily a good point, but one that could be defended. He most certainly wouldn't have come off as being such an incredibly huge turd.

And Sharon brings up a good point in >>14041
but I have to say that the chances of a gay person NOT being in close proximity to people who DO care (for the worse) is probably 50/50.

Alan Grayson.

Lets just ignore his bullshit on the floor of congress for a moment and focus on something that I'm sure Sage is going to love..

>Congressman Alan Grayson, Democrat of Florida, is very angry with Angie Langley, private citizen of Lake County, Florida. Alan Grayson is so angry that he wants Attorney General Eric Holder to put Angie Langley in jail and fined.

>Angie Langley's great sin is to put up a web site called MyCongressmanIsNuts.Com, which has raised 3,725 dollars to defeat Congressman Alan Grayson when she is not in fact one of Grayson's constituents. Furthermore, Grayson claims that the site is designed solely to attack him. It is unclear if putting up a website, even under those circumstances, is a federal offense under the part of the US Code that Alan Grayson cites in his complaint.

>Alan Grayson did say that the name of the website was "tasteless and juvenile." These are concepts that Alan Grayson is indeed familiar with. My Fox TV station in Orlando recounts how.

>Alan Grayson first came to national attention when he asserted, on the floor of the Congress, that the Republican plan for health care reform was for sick people to "die quickly." This was followed by an demand that former Vice President Dick Cheney "STFU", which stands for an obscene suggestion. Alan Grayson also called Linda Robertson, an adviser to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, a "K Street Whore."
